This position is primary for providing food services for Meals on Wheels in accordance with food service contract. Provides support as needed to Goodwill Food Services Department. This position works out of the Goodwill Inn kitchen with the hours of 5am - 1pm M - F.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
  2. Perform work in a safe manner observing all Goodwill safety policies/procedures.
  3. Perform duties and interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
  4. Respect the diversity of others including, but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.
  5. Ensure quality and presentation standards when preparing menu items.
  6. Manage daily tasks associated with the Meals on Wheels home delivery and congregate meal site meals.
  7. Responsible for monthly menu planning, food ordering, food preparation and food safety procedures.
  8. Work with food service staff to complete daily cleaning lists.
  9. Work with food service staff to keep store room and all coolers and freezers clean and organized
  10. Ensure a clean working environment that complies with the local Health Department and other agencies.
  11. Maintain great customer service internally and externally.
  12. Maintain relations with work site contracts, staff and partners.
  13. Ensure cross-trained on other jobs within the food service department.
  14. Provide support with needs across the department where needed.
  15. Interact professionally and cooperatively with all Goodwill team members.
  16. Other duties as assigned by Food Services Manager.


Essential Competencies:

  1. Good analytical and organizational skills.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  3. Ability to keep current with foodservice industry trends and standards.
  4. Ability to follow set recipes.
  5. Knowledge of pastry and baking.
  6. Ability to create artistic and balanced desserts.
  7. Be flexible and provide support across department.
  8. Ability to train and supervise participants with current industries methods.
  9. Basic computer literacy required.
  10. Adhere to all policies and procedures as established in the Goodwill Industries Employee Manual


Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. A minimum of 5 years cooking experience in a food service establishment required.
  3. ServSafe Manager Certification and ServSafe Allergen Certification required.
  4. Valid Michigan Drivers License is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Familiarity with local human service providers and other community resources and agencies
  2. Good verbal and written communication skills and strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  3. Ability to multi-task
  4. Knowledge of and sensitivity to persons with disabilities or who are disadvantaged
  5. Self-starting and personally motivated


Physical / Emotional Requirements:

  1. Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to use hands to handle or feel and regularly sit and reach with hands and arms.
  3. Walking and standing are required.
  4. High, frequent, short deadlines requiring abnormal effort and time.
